TMNet Streamyx presently referred to as just Streamyx is the key internet service provider in Malaysia.
Streamyx is the dominant fixed broadband service provider in Malaysia and is a subsidiary of Malaysia's main telecomunication provider , TM Bhd. Notably TM Net offers its internet Digital Subscriber Line broadband with the brandname Streamyx.
TM Net was established in 1995 by Telekom Malaysia Bhd (which eventually morphed into TM Berhad) as part of Malaysia National Broadband Plan. It was at first deployed as a trial connecting TMnet to COINS.
The first commercial test of xDSL by TM was done via a service known as HiS that was deployed together with Ericsson in 1999.
The first Streamyx internet broadband service was released in April 2001 at speeds of 384kbps.
In June 2007, TMnet starts the high speed 4mbpsbroadband service which is currently, is the highest speed available.
On 10 12 2009, TMNet Streamyx introduced a new 15MBps fiber optic service under the High Speed Broadband (HSBB) and is predicted to be brought out by 03 2010.
Presently the Malaysian internet infrastructure have been determined as not reaching the recent specifications as essential by basic web applications such as that of YouTube, Skype and therefore concludes that Malaysia may not in the long run harvest the rewards of broadband internet. The HSBB or known as High Speed Broadband venture was thought of to improve Malaysia internet facilities to that of a developed nation.
